A message from Sr. Fox, March 2011
A new year and a new need.
2011 has brought new issues to our attention. When we started the "Kids Program" years ago we joined with and supported an existing project. As time evolved, the area of the garbage dump evolved and the project evolved, we saw an even greater need further into the very poor areas. The dump closed and streets were paved, new businesses and stores were opened and the immediate area began to improve due to public awareness. Kids go to better schools, more people helped and things in general improved. This improvement also created greater expenses for us and the focus of educating began to change to a focus of surviving in an area of higher costs. This made us rethink our focus and plan of teaching all Kids and giving them the skills to become employable by the major industry here in Puerto Vallarta, tourism. This led us to the decision to go back to the basics. Teach Math, English and Computers to the Kids. With this foundation they will have a hope of gainful employment and thereby creating a solid base for future families.
To this end we have located another school in a very needy area about another 5 Kilometers (3 miles) inland in a Colonia called Volcanes. In cooperation with the administration of this school, we will be immediately begin supplying teacher assistants here to teach Math and English until we can afford to purchase computers. Once we get the computers, we will also be supplying the assistants for the computer teachers. We are starting with about 80 Kids but see this growing dramatically once the program gains popularity with the local population.
Art Fumerton, who directed the previous projects has graciously agreed to consult with us on this new venture. His experience and skills will be just what we need to make this successful.
Please stay tuned as this project evolves and thank you all for your generous support.

Let's do some math. We have about 12 weeks of School left for this season. We need about 5000 pesos per week to run the school. This includes teachers, supplies transportation and food. (Note the Pizza Parties are not included in this as they are funded by Cafe Roma). This works out to about 55,000 pesos or about 5000 bucks.
As the tourist season winds down, so do the donations. Can you imagine if my friends would take the time to go to make a PayPal donation, how easy it would be to fund this project?
Please take the time my friends.
Urgent! April 20, 2011
Volunteers needed (assistant teachers) to help teach the Kids in the afternoons at Volcanes School. Some Spanish would be very helpful. The transportation leaves Costco at 3 pm and returns around 5:30. If you can help please contact us.
The Kids are Back! May 04, 2011
After a well deserved Easter Break and no school for the last two weeks, the kids are back working hard in school. This also means that the Kids will be here for our weekly Pizza Party this Saturday at 3:00 PM. Come join us for the fun of it and help serve the Kids thier Pizzas and Juice.
Want to do something special? Come join us when we personally drive the Kids back to the School after the Pizza Party. It is quite an experience. We can take up to 4 adults in a very crowded van. It takes about an hour.
The Kids Pizza Party Day Change! June, 2011
As we wind down the regular school year, we will be changing the Kids Pizza Parties to Friday afternoons for the month of June. Come join us for the last few Pizza Parties for this school year. June 17th will probably be the last one until school is back in session in September.

July 2011
Isamundo http://isamundo.org/ has generously donated the first 10 Laptop Computers to the Kids as of July 2010. We are excited that our project is going ahead full steam in spite of the school being closed for the summer break. These computers were shipped to my brother's company, KAL TIRE in Vernon, BC, www.kaltire.com who shipped them for delivery here in Puerto Vallarta.
August 2011

Fort Hays University people were down this past week and have agreed in principal to assist us in our Kids Project. The plan is to install and fund a remote teaching center at our school in Volcanes. This involves computers, communication equipment and teachers (both here and back in Kansas). We believe that this may be the first such project in Mexico and are very excited to see this partnership flourish for the benefit of the Kids. Stay tuned as we will update as we have news.
November 2011
Dr. Robert Moody and his wife from Ft. Hays University were back on the 15th of November and this time they were bearing gifts for the Kids which included a complete Video Conferencing Package. This will allow the undergrad students from Ft. Hayes University in Kansas to interact and help prepare teaching tools to the teachers and Kids in Volcanes. This may be the first such a project in Mexico and we are very proud to be part of it. The technology and teaching materials we previewed are mind boggling! Yay for the Kids!

March 2013
What a great surprise for us and the Kids yesterday when Andrea Lopez from DirectWest Pioneers in Regina, Saskatoon dropped in with donation for our Kids Program. Andrea visited last year and promised to go back home to her friends and cohorts and spread the word about our Kids Community Education Project. She kept her word and this year returned with a cash donation of more that 3000 pesos for the Kids! Thank you Andrea and friends for believing in our Kids!
